Three leaders of SOM's Year One Research Initiative—Oscar Gomez, Christopher Horiuchi, and Simon McKenzie—will present their work at the 2019 AIASF NEXT/GEN Architecture Conference, which takes place June 27 to 28 in San Francisco. With sessions on business, technology, and design, the conference fosters conversations about the future of the industry.
SOM’s presentation, titled “Research + Innovation: Fueled by the Next Generation,” features a multidisciplinary team that will highlight results from the inaugural Year One Research Initiative. Afterward, SOM Associate Director Francesca Oliveira will moderate a panel discussion, provoking thoughtful questions about the industry’s future and how emerging talent can be integrated into the workplace.
SOM created the Year One program to help young professionals jumpstart their careers by supplementing project-based work with continued education. The Research Initiative is a major component of the program, pushing emerging talent to tackle real-world issues through innovative design.
