On June 10th, 2019, SOM will participate in NeoCon 2019. The three-day event, which will take place in Chicago, serves as the commercial design industry’s launch pad for innovation, offering ideas and introductions that shape the built environment today and into the future.
Associate Haley Van Wagenen, an interior design specialist based in SOM’s London office, will discuss adaptive reuse as an approach to sustainable design. She will share insight on the importance of adaptive reuse, sharing examples of SOM’s projects and research practical implications.
As urban environments grow in density, higher demand for space coupled with increasing awareness of our building’s life cycles, embodied energy, and waste streams have led to greater interest in repositioning existing building assets to save natural resources and to stimulate growth within the community. This approach is not only sustainable, but it also presents an opportunity to incorporate the heritage of specific areas, thereby enriching local neighborhoods.
Additionally, SOM and Vocon will co-host a tour of the new C.H. Robinson Midwest Headquarters on June 10th.
