At the recent 2014 Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Conference and Expo, SOM Design Director Paul Danna and SOM Structural and Engineering Partner Mark Sarkisian presented the New United States Courthouse – Los Angeles.
The 625,000-square-foot facility will contain 24 courtrooms and 32 judges’ chambers. SOM's design for the courthouse optimizes workflow and promotes efficient operations and maintenance. The building is designed to achieve LEED® Platinum certification, with sustainable features such as a serrated facade that maximizes views yet also reduces solar heat gain by nearly 50 percent.
Held in Dallas from October 6-8, the conference drew approximately 1,500 DBIA members, owners, students, and industry professionals to partake in panel discussions on best practices specific to the federal, transportation, and water sectors as well as findings on efficiency and innovation.
