On December 9, 2014, two SOM experts will help lead a tour and combined workshop of the Cathedral of Christ the Light with WoodWorks, a cooperative, wood-focused venture of the Wood Products Council. The building, which is composed of an inner wooden vessel sheathed in a veil of glass, was designed by SOM and is located in Oakland, California.
The event will educate attendees about the design, coordination, fabrication, and construction of this unique and architecturally stunning house of worship. David Diamond, SOM Senior Technical Designer, and Eric Long, SOM Senior Structural Engineer, will present the overall concept of the building and participate in a variety of event activities throughout the day. Diamond and Long will be joined by Paul Gilham, Vice President and Chief Engineer for Western Wood Structures, Inc and Todd Mercer, Vice President and Project Executive for Webcor Builders.
The event is $30 and includes breakfast and lunch. It is open to the public. Eligible attendees can earn 3 AIA/CES LUs or PDH credits. Tickets are available for purchase on Eventbrite.
