On Saturday, November 11th, SOM Associate Director Edward Guerra, and Structural Engineers Abel Diaz and Samantha Walker will speak at the Congreso EDIFICA 2017 in Monterrey, Mexico. The group will present their findings from an investigation of the structural damage sustained following the Puebla-Morelos earthquake that struck Mexico City on Sunday, September 19th. Their presentation is titled "Learning from Puebla-Morelos: Engineering Reconnaissance in the Aftermath of an Earthquake."
In the wake of the devastating earthquake, a team of SOM engineers, including Guerra, Diaz, and Walker, traveled to Mexico City to contribute to post-disaster recovery efforts. The team documented building damage and provided technical support to local structural reconnaissance efforts. At the Congreso EDIFICA event, Guerra, Diaz, and Walker will discuss SOM’s observations and findings from the trip.
The mission of Congreso EDIFICA is to explore the global direction of the building construction industry. The event, which will take place at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, is designed for students and the professional community.
