Roger Weber Speaks at 2019 APA Conferences

On Tuesday, October 8th, Associate Roger Weber will speak at the 2019 Biennial Conference of the Maryland chapter of the American Planning Association (APA). The conference will focus on the theme of “Negotiating Change: Balancing Development, Climate Change, and Preservation in Maryland.” In a session titled “Smart Planning Maryland’s First Smart City: Lessons in Planning Innovation from SOM and the City of Seat Pleasant,” Weber will present SOM’s work on the Seat Pleasant master plan alongside the City of Seat Pleasant Mayor Eugene W. Grant. They will delve into how smart collaborations and smart planning can help advance the competitiveness and quality of life in small cities, opportunity zones, and historically African-American communities.

On Friday, October 11th, Weber will present at the 2019 annual APA North Carolina conference in Wilmington, North Carolina. In a session titled “High Demand and Scarce Land: Planning for Growth in Valley Communities,” he will highlight SOM’s recent work on the Asheville Comprehensive Plan. Weber will share insight on both the goals of the master plan and the role community engagement has played in its development. Brian Licari of Development Strategies and Todd Okolichany, the Planning Director of the City of Asheville, will join Weber in the APA conference session.
