Roger Duffy Discusses SOM’s Penn Station Vision Plan

On April 9, 2014, SOM Partner Roger Duffy will participate in a panel discussion about the future of Penn Station. Hosted by the Center for Architecture, the event will focus on the plans developed by four architecture firms in response to a design challenge issued by the Municipal Art Society of New York to re-envision the busiest train station in North America.

Duffy will present SOM’s vision plan, which calls for the expansion of Penn Station’s footprint by two additional blocks to accommodate high-speed rail lines, expanded commuter rail service for the entire tri-state area, and direct rail connections to surrounding airports. Encircling this multi-modal hub, SOM proposes to build an expansive public park, a bustling commercial development, and an entire residential neighborhood.

The event is part of the Center for Architecture’s “Transportation as Cultural Identifier” series, which focuses on major transportation centers and how they might be designed to meaningfully transform cities.
