Two SOM-designed projects were named to the shortlist for the 2017 New London Awards, an annual program supported by the Mayor of London. The nominees, Lexicon and the New Covent Garden Market Master Plan, are also eligible for a People's Choice Award, to be decided by a public vote.
Dan Ringelstein, SOM Director of Urban Design and Planning in the firm's London office, will present plans for New Covent Garden Market. The event will take place on June 22 as part of the London Festival of Architecture.
BDP and SOM have submitted plans for a new market that will be the largest new development in the Nine Elms area in London. The £2 billion scheme replaces the existing New Covent Garden Market and adds a mixed-use neighborhood of 3,000 homes and more than 200,000 square feet of office and retail space.
BDP and SOM submitted their planning application for The Garden and Surplus Lands, a 57-acre regeneration of New Covent Garden Market in Central London. The multi-phased project is the single largest redevelopment scheme within the revitalization area.
