Nine SOM architects and engineers will present seven case studies at the 2019 AEI Conference in Tysons, Virginia. The theme for the conference, which is hosted by the Architectural Engineering Institute and Pennsylvania State University, is "Integrated Building Solutions: The National Agenda."
Three SOM-designed projects are finalists in the 2018 Tall + Urban Innovation Conference Awards in Chicago. At the event, presented by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), the design teams behind each competing project will present their work to a jury for award selection. Additionally, William F. Baker will chair the "Best Tall Building, Middle East & Africa" session.
The Center for Character and Leadership Development and 111 Main have each received an IDEAS2 Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction. The awards program honors engineering and architecture projects that incorporate structural steel in innovative ways.
The Structural Engineers Association of Northern California has named 111 Main, an office tower in Salt Lake City, as the winner of a 2018 Award of Excellence in Structural Engineering. SOM used an innovative engineering solution to suspend the building above the performing arts theater beside it.
