Austin American-Statesman reports on a new, 19-acre, SOM-led master plan in the heart of Austin. A redevelopment of a site currently home to the American-Statesman's offices, the master plan will turn the waterfront property into a mixed-use development.
SOM's leadership in skyscraper and urban design will once again be represented at the annual global conference of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. This year's event takes place October 30–November 3 in various venues in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne, Australia.
Thomas Behr, Kent Jackson, and Douglas Voigt have been elected to join SOM's Partnership, in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the firm. An Executive Committee Strategic Officer and seven new Directors have also been named.

The Chicago Lakeside Development — a joint venture between McCaffery Interests and U.S. Steel Corporation — has won the first Sustainia Community Award. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the award on October 11 during a ceremony at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen.
