SOM Partners Kent Jackson and Thomas Behr will attend the MIPIM 2017 Conference in Cannes from March 14 to 17. The annual conference gathers leaders from the international property industry for four days of networking and learning through events, conferences, and exhibition areas.
On December 14th, 2016, the SOM project team attended the topping-out ceremony of the Manhattan Loft Gardens residential tower in London. The 42-story building contains a 150-room hotel at the lower levels with a 34-story residential tower above.
On October 26th and 27th, 2016, SOM Design Partner Kent Jackson and Associate Director Peter Jackson will speak at this year's London Build Expo. The event brings together over 100 speakers with a focus on construction projects and opportunities in London and the South of England.
Thomas Behr, Kent Jackson, and Douglas Voigt have been elected to join SOM's Partnership, in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the firm. An Executive Committee Strategic Officer and seven new Directors have also been named.
On December 3, 2014, the SOM Foundation bestowed its UK Award to Kent Gin and Mike Lim, two students who were shortlisted for the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) 2014 President’s Medal. Gin is studying at the University of East London, and Lim is a student at the Royal College of Art.
SOM Structural and Civil Engineering Partner William Baker and Design Director Kent Jackson will lead a public workshop on the topic of “Superlatives” at the U.S. Pavilion at the Venice Biennale on Saturday, September 6.
SOM has been awarded the Polestar Tower project in Gothenburg, Sweden. Following an international competition, the team’s design for a 230-meter tower and master plan for the surrounding area has been chosen from proposals by five shortlisted finalists.
SOM has relocated its London headquarters to the Broadgate Tower, the most recent development in the Broadgate Estate. The 11,000-square-foot office space respects and expresses the key architectural and structural principles of the 35-story tower while providing an inspiring work atmosphere for the firm’s 70 employees based in London.
Kent Jackson, Design Director in SOM's London office, has been chosen to serve on the international jury for the World Architecture News Awards. He will judge projects in the commercial category.
