SOM will participate in more than 20 events at this year's AIA Conference on Architecture in New York City. The conference, which features approximately 70 educational and networking events, includes seminars, workshops, and a two-day Architecture Expo at the Javits Center.

Multiple representatives from SOM will participate in the 2017 Facades+ Los Angeles conference. The two-day event brings building professionals and researchers together to discuss current practices and innovations in facade design, fabrication, and construction.
In preparation for the Facades+ conference in Los Angeles, The Architect's Newspaper highlights works by local designers and practices. SOM's Paul Danna, José Luis Palacios, Garth Ramsey, and Keith Boswell are featured, as are Olympia and the New United States Courthouse in Los Angeles.
On April 6th, 2016, members of SOM's Los Angeles office will discuss the sustainable design of the New United States Courthouse with civic and design leaders at Los Angeles City Hall. The event is co-hosted by the Los Angeles chapter of the AIA and the Mayor's Office of Sustainability.
In December, the Bakersfield City Council voted unanimously to hire SOM to develop the Downtown Bakersfield High-Speed Rail Station Area Plan. Part of the California High-Speed Rail System, the project will develop a vision for the downtown area around the proposed station site.
At the recent 2014 Design-Build Institute of America Conference and Expo, SOM Design Director Paul Danna and SOM Structural and Engineering Partner Mark Sarkisian presented the New United States Courthouse – Los Angeles. Held in Dallas from October 6-8, the conference held panel discussions on best practices specific to the federal, transportation, and water sectors as well as findings on efficiency and innovation.
The SOM partners announced the launch of a new design studio as part of their growing West Coast practice. Leading the new studio are three former SOM architects: Michael Mann, Paul Danna, and Jose Luis Palacios.
