Nine SOM architects and engineers will present seven case studies at the 2019 AEI Conference in Tysons, Virginia. The theme for the conference, which is hosted by the Architectural Engineering Institute and Pennsylvania State University, is "Integrated Building Solutions: The National Agenda."

Poly International Plaza has received an Award of Merit in Azure Publishing's eighth annual AZ Awards for Design Excellence. The multi-tower project in Beijing won in the Commercial/Institutional Architecture (over 1,000 square meters) category.
On July 26th, 2018, Associate Director Frank Mahan will speak at the 4th Biennial Conference of the International Society for the Philosophy of Architecture. The event will take place at the SOM-designed Center for Character & Leadership Development at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
On July 18th, 2018, SOM Senior Consulting Design Partner Roger Duffy will be the keynote speaker on day two of Perspective USA 2018, a forum hosted by The Plan magazine. The event centers on a discussion of innovations in architecture and design.
At the 2017-2018 China Real Estate Design Awards, SOM received three awards for three projects. Poly International Plaza received the Gold Award, the program's highest honor, with China World Trade Center 3B and Ningbo Bank of China Headquarters receiving Merit Awards.
Three SOM-designed projects are finalists in the 2018 Tall + Urban Innovation Conference Awards in Chicago. At the event, presented by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), the design teams behind each competing project will present their work to a jury for award selection. Additionally, William F. Baker will chair the "Best Tall Building, Middle East & Africa" session.
The Center for Character and Leadership Development and 111 Main have each received an IDEAS2 Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction. The awards program honors engineering and architecture projects that incorporate structural steel in innovative ways.
