In the AIA California Council's 2018 Design Awards, two SOM projects received recognition. Tenaya Towers at the University of California, Santa Barbara and Geffen Hall at the University of California, Los Angeles both received Merit Awards.
Geffen Hall at the University of California, Los Angeles has been awarded LEED® Platinum certification. The educational facility serves as a gateway for the David Geffen School of Medicine and the UCLA campus as a whole.
On April 13th, 2016, SOM Design Director Javier Arizmendi will deliver a lecture at UC Berkeley. He will speak about how and why designs evolve through a collaborative design process, presenting a new teaching and learning facility for the David Geffen School of Medicine as a case study.
U Magazine, the official publication of UCLA Health and David Geffen School of Medicine, recently reported on the fall preview of Geffen Hall, UCLA's new medical education building. Designed by SOM, the project will serve as a gateway for the School of Medicine and the campus as a whole.
The SOM-designed UCLA Teaching and Learning Center for Health Sciences was the winner of the Under Construction Category at the 44th Annual Los Angeles Architectural Awards. SOM was recognized at an event hosted by the Los Angeles Business Council.
The SOM partners announced the launch of a new design studio as part of their growing West Coast practice. Leading the new studio are three former SOM architects: Michael Mann, Paul Danna, and Jose Luis Palacios.
