At the beginning of each year, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) releases a report examining every building measuring 200 meters or taller completed during the previous year. The 2017 CTBUH Year in Review features five SOM projects.
On January 11th, 2018, SOM's San Francisco office will host a panel discussion in partnership with AIA San Francisco and the Judicial Council of California. The goal of the event is to discuss the current portfolio and project objectives of the Judicial Council, and to provide an overview of its upcoming architectural service solicitations.
Three SOM projects—the United States Courthouse in Los Angeles, India Basin in San Francisco, and San Diego Central Courthouse—were honored in the 2017 Architect's Newspaper Best of Design Awards. The fifth annual awards program highlighted projects in 42 categories.

The Center for Character and Leadership Development has received a 2017 Excellence in Structural Engineering Award from the National Council of Structural Engineers Association. The annual program recognizes exemplary projects from around the world.
Curbed features two SOM-designed projects in a roundup of beautiful airports around the world, originally published in May, 2017. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport's Terminal 2 and Changi International Airport's Terminal 3 are recognized for innovative and culturally resonant designs.
On September 15th, Ingedia Sanchez will speak at the 2017 AIA Women's Summit in Washington, D.C. An architect based in SOM's Chicago office, Sanchez has led the technical designs for numerous tall and supertall towers around the world.
Public Safety Answering Center II and the Center for Character & Leadership Development received National Design Awards from the Society of American Registered Architects. The program recognizes achievements in architecture and design from residential developments to unbuilt and theoretical projects.
