The new United States Courthouse in Los Angeles has been recognized as a 2017 Best of the Best Project by Engineering News-Record (ENR). The awards program recognizes exemplary design and construction projects completed between May 2016 and May 2017. One of approximately 700 entries, the courthouse won in the Government/Public Building category. Prior to this award, the courthouse had received a regional award; the regional win resulted in the courthouse advancing to the national Best of the Best pool. As a Best of the Best winner, the courthouse is eligible for ENR's Project of the Year Award, which will be announced in March.
Located on a prominent block in Los Angeles' Civic Center neighborhood, the 10-story, 633,000-square-foot courthouse contains 24 courtrooms and 32 judicial chambers. It houses the U.S. District Court of the Central District of California, accommodates the needs of the U.S. Marshals Service, and provides trial preparation space for the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Federal Public Defender. The courthouse achieved LEED® Platinum certification and meets the GSA's 2020 energy objective.
