Mustafa Abadan Receives a 2016 Ellis Island Medal of Honor

SOM Design Partner Mustafa K. Abadan has received a prestigious 2016 Ellis Island Medal of Honor. Sponsored by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO), the Medals of Honor recognize a select group of individuals for accomplishments in their field and service to the United States. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the program, whose previous honorees have included Hillary Clinton, Muhammad Ali, Quincy Jones, and Rosa Parks. The annual ceremony takes place on historic Ellis Island.

Many of Abadan’s projects have received awards and recognition from the American Institute of Architects, Progressive ArchitectureArchitectural Review, and the Urban Land Institute. He remains involved in advancing and supporting architectural education as the Chairman of the SOM Foundation and in an advisory capacity to the Dean of the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning at Cornell University.
