Marla Gayle Wins Commercial Observer’s Barrier Breaker Award

SOM Director Marla Gayle has been named one of the leading women in design by Commercial Observer. At the Women in Real Estate, Design and Construction Forum on Thursday, November 15th, Gayle received the Barrier Breaker Award, an accolade granted to women who are proven leaders, have led distinguished careers, and have paved the way for the next generation of women in the industry.

Gayle was recognized with winners of the Innovation Award and the Woman on the Rise Award at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City, where the forum was held. The event featured keynote speakers and panel discussions analyzing challenges, opportunities, and leadership for women within the building industry.

Gayle has spent more than two decades programming, planning, and managing large-scale transportation and infrastructure projects. Her work has improved the travel experience in New York City and in other places around the world. Her latest project, Moynihan Train Hall, is a critical part of the redevelopment of the entire Penn Station complex, and will anchor the burgeoning development of Manhattan’s Far West Side.
