On February 2 and 3, 2015, Mark Sarkisian, SOM Structural and Seismic Engineering Partner, will visit the University of Naples in Italy to present at Erasmus Mundus, a program organized by the European Union to enhance the quality of higher education in Europe and to promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures.
Sarkisian will give the keynote lecture for the master course, “Sustainable Constructions Under Natural Hazards and Catastrophic Events,” on February 2. In his address, entitled "Connection | Disconnection – Sustainable Structures for the Future," Sarkisian will explore the collaborative relationship between the science of structures and the city within the context of our changing climate.
The following day, Sarkisian will teach “Designing Tall Buildings – Structure as Architecture.” The tall buildings course will cover historical developments, site issues, systems, the fundamentals of forces, and the language of structures. In addition, Sarkisian will discuss creative solutions inspired by nature and realized in mechanisms that have led, and will lead to, beautiful and efficient structures.
