The Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) has recognized the SOM-designed Awesomeness in the 2018 Los Angeles Architectural Awards. The annual awards program honors projects that support sustainability and enhance economic competitiveness, quality of life, and community development in the Los Angeles region. The awards were presented on Friday, June 1st.
Awesomeness, a global entertainment media brand, is located in Santa Monica’s Pen Factory. SOM designed the interiors of Awesomeness, as well as the adaptive reuse project to transform Pen Factory, a former manufacturing facility, into a multi-tenant creative office space. The Awesomeness headquarters accommodates approximately 500 employees and includes open and closed work spaces, production and post-production areas, and a screening room. The design fosters collaboration and community while referencing the company’s Generation Z core audience.
LABC is an educational and advocacy organization that promotes economic and environmental sustainability throughout the Los Angeles region by facilitating dialogue between business leaders and city government representatives. The organization’s public policy initiatives focus on energy and the environment, housing and transportation, and economic development.
