Landmarks Illinois Offers Elgin Suggestions for Reusing EMHC Building

A preservation group has come up with ideas for reusing a laundry building that was on the Elgin Mental Health Center campus and is on land that now is owned by the city of Elgin.


Landmarks Illinois commissioned the report, which was paid for with an anonymous financial gift and involved the input of architecture, design and planning firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and engineering and architecture firm Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates...

The report posits the building as an extension of The Centre in downtown Elgin and proposes "a host of configurations that could accommodate a variety of options from soccer to basketball, among others... with the potential for specialized areas for strength training, martial arts, wrestling and dance."
