Kim Van Holsbeke Joins AIANY Global Dialogues Series

On Thursday, March 14th, SOM Director Kim Van Holsbeke will speak at “_Destinations: Mexico City,” hosted by AIANY Global Dialogues. The panel discussion will be moderated by Felipe Correa, Architecture Chair at UVA School of Architecture and founder of the design practice Somatic Collaborative.

“_Destinations: Mexico City” will explore the issues and opportunities Mexico City faces as a global metropolis at the crossroads of North, Central, and South America. How are designers responding to issues involving housing, infrastructure, culture, public space, sustainability, and resiliency in ways that are sensitive to Mexico City’s cultural, historic, and geographic context? What lessons and solutions can designers learn from Mexico City that may be applicable globally?

The discussion is the inaugural event of AIANY’s Global Dialogues “_Destinations” series. The series opens the floor to designers who are tackling 21st-century urban issues, from climate change, to the shortage of quality affordable housing, to the need for more inviting and inclusive public spaces. The challenges that metropolises face today require increasingly innovative design solutions. Each “_Destinations” event will focus on one global city, exploring how design can help urban centers evolve in line with the changing times.
