On Thursday, February 22nd, SOM Associate Gunnar Hand will participate in two panel discussions at the Symposium on Resilient Design 2018. The two-day event will take place at California Polytechnic State University's College of Architecture and Environmental Design in San Luis Obispo, California.
With the theme of "State of the Art & Emerging Issues," the syposium brings together planners, engineers, and architects to discuss current practices and thinking in resilient design. Hand will join two sessions at the symposium: "Work Examples: Emerging Ways to Use Resilience Thinking" and "The Future Ahead: Issues, Challenges, and Opportunities." In both sessions, Hand will discuss SOM's Regenerative Cities, a research initiative that seeks to define the regenerative city—a concept of urban development built on a restorative relationship with the environment.
Josh Sawislak of AECOM and Yana Waldman of Arup will join Hand on both panels.
