Governor Cuomo Announces Progress at Moynihan Train Hall

On Thursday, August 17th, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo will speak at Moynihan Train Hall, designed by SOM. A critical part of the redevelopment of the Penn Station complex, the project involves the conversion of the historic Farley Post Office Building into a 21st-century train station. At the event, Cuomo will give a presentation on recent progress for the Penn Station redevelopment as well as other major infrastructure projects throughout New York State.

The event celebrates an important construction milestone for the Moynihan project. With the demolition of the concrete slab above the concourse floor, the full height of the building’s interior courtyard space will be revealed for the first time. This vast space, comparable in volume to the main concourse of Grand Central Station, will be enclosed by a new skylight designed by SOM, once completed.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony in June marked the completion of the redevelopment project’s first phase—the opening of the West End Concourse, which links Penn Station to the future Moynihan Train Hall. The new Train Hall is anticipated to open in 2020.
