Four SOM Projects Shortlisted in ABB LEAF Awards

Four SOM projects have been shortlisted in the 18th annual ABB LEAF Awards. The award program, which recognizes projects around the world for design excellence, will select winners in 16 different categories in October. SOM’s shortlisted projects were Manhattan Loft Gardens, New Futura, the Cornell Tech Campus Framework Plan, and Moynihan Train Hall.

Manhattan Loft Gardens was recognized in three categories: Best Mixed Use Building Project, Best Residential Building Project, Best Facade Design & Engineering Project. The 42-story tower combines apartments, a five-star hotel, sky gardens, two destination restaurants, and event studios to create a new mixed-use model for urban living, which is sociable, flexible and elegant.

New Futura was also recognized in the Best Residential Building Project – Multiple Occupancy category. The project, two 36-story towers inspired by rigorous patterns, rich hardwoods, and the beauty of repetition, is a luxury condominium in Singapore.

The Cornell Tech Campus Framework Plan was shortlisted in the Best Urban Design Project category. The master plan, created in collaboration with James Corner Field Operations, is a new applied science university designed to spur the growth of New York City’s technology sector.

Moynihan Train Hall, a monumental civic project to convert McKim, Mead & White’s 1913 James A. Farley Post Office into a 21st-century train station, was shortlisted in the Best Future Building Under Construction Project category.
