Event Recap: Facades+ New York City Conference

On Thursday, April 6th, SOM Design Partner Roger Duffy delivered a keynote address at the 2017 Facades+ New York City Conference, presented by The Architect’s Newspaper. SOM Associate Director Christoph Timm co-chaired the event with William Menking, editor of The Architect’s Newspaper.

Titled “Facades in the Age of Collaboration,” Duffy’s address was the keynote presentation for the afternoon session of the day-long symposium. With a unique sense of the conjoining of art, science, landscape, and architecture, Duffy shared insight on the process of facade design in the field today, highlighting recent SOM projects that reflect collaboration among architects, engineers, and craftspeople.

As co-chair, Christoph Timm helped curate the program for the symposium. Additionally, Timm moderated a panel titled “Deep Diving Into Glass: Quality Control and New Uses.”

Facades+ is an ongoing series of conferences that began in 2012 and, since then, has taken place in Seattle, Dallas, Chicago, and other cities around the United States.
