On Friday, April 28th, SOM Design Director Eric Keune will speak at the San Francisco Art Institute. Keune will introduce Paffard Keatinge-Clay, the architect of the institute's Brutalist campus addition. Based in SOM's Chicago office, Keune is an architect and architectural historian with an expertise in the history and design of Modernist architecture. In 2006, Keune published Paffard Keatinge-Clay: Modern Architect(ure)/Modern Master(s), a profile of the English-born architect and his seminal projects.
Following Keune's introduction, Keatinge-Clay will deliver a special lecture about his 1969 campus design for the San Francisco Art Institute. Regarded as one of the most influential Modernists in American history, Keatinge-Clay trained under Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright before working at SOM and eventually opening his own practice in San Francisco. Now based in Spain, Keatinge-Clay continues to practice architecture.
