Douglas Voigt, SOM Director of Urban Design and Planning, will present “The Human Footprint” at The University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) College of Architecture and Design as part of the Governor’s Chair Seminar Series on October 23, 2014. The series is held by the Governor’s Chair for Energy and Urbanism, a partnership between UTK, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and SOM.
For his seminar, Voigt will present case studies from SOM’s City Design Practice on high performance infrastructure and livable communities. He will discuss how multi-disciplinary collaboration and research have led to the positioning of new ideas that transcend best practices.
Voigt has worked on complex downtown mixed-use projects, new city designs and large-scale architectural efforts. His work embodies a holistic approach to energy and urbanism and is inspired by the belief that dramatic economic and environmental benefits will come through the necessary transition from carbon-based power generation to renewable sources.
