On Sunday, February 11th, SOM's Dawveed Scully will speak at the third annual Anthology Architecture and Design Festival in Manila. Every year, the festival celebrates a central theme; 2018's lineup focuses on cultivating dialogue regarding social architecture and the creation of inclusive and engaging communities.
In his presentation, "Collaborating to Design the Just City," Scully will explore this theme by presenting examples of how the City Design Practice in SOM's Chicago office partners with local nonprofit organizations and municipalities. In his discussion of various community-centered projects, including the Detroit East Riverfront Framework Plan, and Chicago's Woodlawn 2025 and the 71st Street Vision, Scully will share insight on the process of designing architecture and planning projects that foster social equality.
Scully is a Senior Urban Designer at SOM in Chicago. Trained as an architect and urbanist, he is passionate about using design as a tool for empowerment and collaboration among local residents, stakeholders, and government for equitable design outcomes.
