Craig Hartman, SOM Design Partner, will give a keynote lecture at a church design symposium on February 12, 2015 in Melbourne, Australia. Organized by the Australian Catholic University and the National Liturgical Architecture and Art Board, “God is in the Detail: Making Architecture and Art for Catholic Worship” will take place from February 11 to February 13, 2015.
The Cathedral of Christ the Light will be the focal point of the symposium, featured as "one of the great contemporary works of sacred architecture, bringing together tradition and innovation." Rev Dr Paul Minnihan of the Diocese of Oakland, who developed the liturgical brief, will give the first keynote on February 12. Hartman will follow, describing SOM's architectural response to the brief while acknowledging social, cultural, ecclesial, historical, urban and other influences that informed the design.
