On Monday, December 5th, SOM Associate Director Benton Johnson will deliver a lecture at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee. His talk, titled "Architecture and Structures in the Computational Age," will cover recent advances in computer-aided design and their effects on the architecture and engineering design process at SOM.

A leading technical designer at SOM's Chicago office, Johnson played a key role in the development of the Additive Manufacturing Integrated Energy (AMIE 1.0) demonstration project, currently the world's largest 3D-printed polymer enclosure and a model for off-grid urban living. AMIE 1.0 was realized in the first year of the Governor's Chair for Energy and Urbanism, a partnership between SOM, ORNL and the University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design.
