ASHRAE Names Luke Leung to Distinguished Lecturer Program

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has named Luke Leung, SOM Director of Sustainable Engineering, to its Distinguished Lecturer Program. The initiative creates learning opportunities for engineers of all levels and recognizes industry leaders across an array of disciplines in sustainable engineering.

Recognized by the ASHRAE Central Illinois Chapter for a lecture entitled “Live Long, Healthy and Low Energy,” Leung’s presentation was described by an attendee as “…one of the most engaging presentations I’ve attended.” Leung spoke about correlations between the built environment and quality of life for urban residents. He also shed light on SOM’s recent research into projected life expectancy for city and rural dwellers. Emerging statistics show an increase in lifespan for residents of densely populated areas, said Leung, emphasizing a need for the expansion of energy-efficient and sustainable building programs worldwide.
