On Tuesday, January 23rd, SOM Associate Director Arathi Gowda will make a presentation titled "The 411 on: Reducing Your Material Footprint While Improving Occupant Health" at the January meeting of the Construction Specifications Institute's Chicago Chapter. The event centers on how to reduce the footprint of a building through the use of sustainable construction materials, while seeking to improve occupant health.

In her presentation, Gowda will explain the concept of life cycle cost analysis, which evaluates products across multiple environmental impacts and compares options to design and construct more efficient buildings. John Mlade, Senior Associate at WSP USA, will join Gowda as a presenter.

At SOM, Gowda is responsible for developing and implementing environmental best practices throughout all phases of a project. She specializes in integrated design solutions that consider the impact of the built environment at multiple scales, from infrastructure to the embodied energy of building materials.
