500 Folsom Tops Out in San Francisco

500 Folsom celebrated its topping out ceremony in January 2019, marking the project’s most recent milestone. For more than a decade, SOM has collaborated with the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency to create a master plan for the Transbay District, home to San Francisco’s new transit center. 500 Folsom, also known as Transbay Redevelopment Project Block 9, will help to strengthen the area and mark Folsom Street as the main public and commercial thoroughfare.

Flanked by two lower podium buildings, the 42-story mixed-use tower will provide 456 market rate units, 114 affordable units, and a variety of amenities, including elevated gardens, a greenhouse, and community rooms. Ground-level retail spaces and a series of passageways will enhance the public realm and bring activity to the high-density neighborhood.

SOM has led the project’s design in collaboration with Fougeron Architecture. Construction is expected to be complete this summer.
