The SOM-designed office building at 1515 West Webster Avenue—the latest addition to the North Branch of the Chicago River—has topped out in Chicago. Located at the edge of the Lincoln Park neighborhood, where the Chicago River meets one of the city’s vital east-west corridors, 1515 West Webster Avenue is the first development to emerge on the former site of the historic Finkl steel mill.
The office will house open, flexible workspaces across four stories. A central atrium will span the height of the building to infuse the interiors with daylight, while a two-story staircase will lead to a seating area that provides a casual gathering space for staff. Targeting LEED® Gold certification, 1515 West Webster incorporates low-cost, high-efficiency materials to achieve significant improvements in performance and reductions in construction material usage.
Upon completion, expected in mid-2018, 1515 West Webster will house the Midwest headquarters of transportation logistics company C.H. Robinson.
