Gene Schnair

FAIA, Managing Partner

Gene Schnair, FAIA, is a managing partner for SOM’s San Francisco office specializing in the management of large-scale, complex projects. His experience spans the globe from locally-based projects to London, China, Thailand, and the Philippines. This international experience provides him with a broad and creative perspective of urbanism and the built environment.

Since 2000, Mr. Schnair has steered the firm’s practice in China, working to advance industry standards for international design services and contracting. He has been interviewed for numerous articles on China’s booming real estate development market for national and international publications.

Mr. Schnair is also recognized for his success in leading some of the firm’s most complex government projects, including the San Francisco Civic Center Complex, the largest design-build project ever undertaken by the State of California, and the U.S. Embassy Complex in Beijing, the largest project ever undertaken by the U.S. Department of State.
