Gary Haney

Design Partner

Gary Haney has over 24 years of experience at SOM. He has served as design partner on a broad range of international projects including office and residential buildings, hotels, and educational facilities in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Dubai, Mexico, Qatar, and Pakistan. Current work includes the headquarters for Al Rajhi Bank in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; a hotel and residential development in Mexico City; and the AHF mixed-use tower in Kuwait City.

Mr. Haney has provided award-winning designs for courthouses, embassies, and other government buildings for federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the U.S. Patent and Trade Office, and the U.S. Census Bureau, which was recently awarded the merit award for architecture by the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

In New York City, Mr. Haney has been the design partner of such prominent and well-recognized projects as the headquarters of the New York Mercantile Exchange Headquarters (NYMEX), located at the World Financial Center, as well as the World Headquarters of Random House, a mixed-use development located on Broadway, just north of Times Square. His other completed projects in New York include the United States Courthouse in White Plains and Eleven Metrotech Center which houses the City of New York’s E-911 emergency call center.

Mr. Haney has served on the advisory boards at Pratt Institute and Miami University Department of Architecture and Interior Design. He has also served as an architectural critic on juries at several universities including Columbia University, the Pratt Institute, Catholic University, University of Maryland, NJIT, North Carolina State University, and Florida A&M. In addition to these academic contributions, he has led design studios at MIT, Miami University, and Ball State University. His design work while at SOM has been extensively covered in the international press, and his drawings have been exhibited at Miami University of Ohio, the Brooklyn Museum, and the National Building Museum.

Mr. Haney holds a Master of Architecture degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Environmental Design Degree from Miami University of Ohio. His professional affiliations include the American Institute of Architects, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, and the Urban Land Institute.
