Rod Garrett

Rod Garrett is a Director in the SOM Washington DC office. Mr. Garrett has considerable experience with the public agency review and approval process and has lectured on the topics of sustainability, the design-build delivery process and architectural design for federal agencies. Since joining SOM in 1986, he has been instrumental in the award-winning design of SOM Washington’s most important projects such as the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, MD; the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia; and the master plan and renovation of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History in Washington, DC.

Mr. Garrett’s experience also includes numerous high-security, high-technology facilities such as: C4ISR Communications Complex in Aberdeen, Maryland; National Defense University at Fort McNair in Washington, DC; FBI Washington Metropolitan Field Office, and the Biometrics Technology Center. Internationally, his experience includes secure U.S. Embassies in Ottawa, Canada; Rangoon, Burma; Accra, Ghana; Lome, Togo; and Moscow, Russia.

He has cultivated expertise in adaptive re-use/planning and innovative major commercial office complexes in the National Capital Region which include 1801 K Street, 2001 K Street and the I-395 Air Rights Master Plan in Washington, DC.
