Rethinking the Urban Environment
San Francisco
Author: Jared Blumenfeld, Director of the San Francisco Department of the Environment
In late August of 2007, SOM San Francisco sponsored the Regenerative Urban Ecology Forum, a two-day session focusing on densification, climate change, and livable cities through the lens of real marketplace economics and design excellence. Leaders from SOM, consulting groups, think tanks, and academia, as well as members of San Francisco’s city government, discussed the opportunity for San Francisco to become a global precedent for regenerative urban environments. The following white paper represents some of the strategies proposed to realize this goal.
