SOM’s design for the Long Center for the Performing Arts proposes an ultra-modern entertainment and concert complex. Its four new concert halls have a seating capacity of four thousand, with artistic support, offices, and reception spaces crowned by a luminescent, glass-walled grand lobby overlooking downtown Austin. The new Center design evokes the site’s original, beloved Palmer Auditorium and has been lauded for its plan to achieve a number of design goals on a limited budget.
