About UNC
Founded in 1789, UNC at Chapel Hill was the first American public university to open its doors to students. Today, it offers Bachelor, Master, Doctoral, and professional degrees. Five health schools combine with UNC hospitals to form one of America's most complete academic medical centers; the school also offers liberal arts, science, and high-tech academic programs.
What is a genome?
A genome is an organism’s entire collection of genetic material. The individual pieces within a genome combine to form an entity that is bigger than the collection of its parts. And yet without each of these parts—the larger entity can never be achieved. Each is equally important; and just as important are their connections and interdependence.
