The Great Northern Initiative project focused on the G-MEX District, a 50-acre site located in central Manchester. SOM’s Master Plan identified the opportunity to create the Great Northern Square as an entrance into the District, which was already characterized by the G-MEX Exhibition Hall and new Concert Hall. The Square consists of high quality hard and soft landscape features including a terraced amphitheatre at its center. Restaurants and cafés are provided to the north of the Square, whilst the setting for a new commercial office building lies to the east.
