Key to the design of Formica Corporation’s headquarters was the challenge to highlight the company’s famous line of wood, metal, and stone laminates without transforming the space into a product showroom. SOM instead transformed the offices into a working showroom of Formica products: Approximately 70% of all vertical and horizontal surfaces were built from Formica laminate and metal materials. New wood grain panel laminate was used to clad office fronts, while metal laminates were used as surfaces for a central conference room hub and the reception desk.
