Calder Symposium

40th Anniversary Celebration of La Grande Vitesse

Panelist: Design Partner Ross Wimer, AIA

Scholars of Alexander Calder and curators of Modern Art will discuss the scope of the artist's work over the course of his six-decade long career. The symposium will consider La Grande Vitesse in the context of Calder's body of work and in reference to its architectural setting.

Topics include:

  • The evolution of Calder's work from his early years in Paris in the 1920s
  • Friendships with the Surrealists to Calder's final monumental public sculptures
  • The genre of Calder's jewelry and its relationship to his wire sculpture
